| buttonhole bound books
The buttonhole binding can be used on either journals or albums, although I prefer this binding on scrapbooks. This binding is especially decorative. Books can be styled with a solid or cut-out spine to reveal either a title or the spine edge of inside pages. The threads running along the spine can be embellished with weaving or beads. While its strength is suitable for most demands, the buttonhole binding needs reinforcement for larger books. Buttonhole bound scrapbooks work especially well because the spine sewing becomes sandwiched inside of each page, providing the extra needed support. The scrapbook structure, therefore, allows large, heavy pages to open flat and to turn more easily. This binding was self-taught many years ago from Keith A. Smith's book Non-adhesive Binding, Books without Paste or Glue. |
